The family will welcome friends on Friday from 12 Noon until time of the service at 2 PM.
Ken was born on October 23, 1930, in Detroit, MI to the late Varner and Eunice (Linder) Wright, of Monroe. In 1950, Ken enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country. His first assignment was Casual Company, Special Troops in Fort Lee, Virginia. He was later assigned to ship overseas to join the fighting during the Korean War where he served on the front lines, again attached to Company C, Special Troops. He was honorably discharged in 1953 holding the rank of Sergeant. During his service, Ken received the following Medals/Service Awards: Bronze Service Star, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, and the Overseas Service Bar. Three Months after being discharged from the Army, Ken married Imojean Maynord of Livingston in January of 1953. Shortly thereafter, the Wright's moved West to chase their dreams in Los Angeles, CA, where they lived and worked until the mid-seventies when they relocated to Lake Tahoe, NV, to work in the resort industry. While living out west, Ken and Imojean lived a full and vibrant life rooted in hard work, service, and simple pleasures. In 1985, the Wright's retired and moved back to TN where they settled in Lebanon. They both took second careers working at the Nashville International Airport where Ken worked as a VIP hospitality driver for the airport where he had the opportunity to meet new people which he greatly enjoyed until he retired again. Ken was very outgoing and if you ever spent time with him, you would quickly learn he loved to laugh, tell jokes and funny stories and just spend time with people. In his later years, Ken enjoyed the outdoors, reading the newspaper, playing his guitar, watching classic westerns and spending time with his wife, family, and church friends. He and his wife attended Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Mt. Juliet, TN, where they were members for many years until failing health prevented it.
Ken is survived by his sisters, Joyce Rich and husband Daniel of Monroe and Jonell Sells (late husband Terry) of Monroe; his brother Leon Wright and wife Lillian of Murfreesboro; and several nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Imojean Wright; his parents Varner and Eunice Wright; sisters, Faye Winningham and Carole Shook; and brother Douglas Wright.
Pallbearers who are honored to serve: Ben Winningham, Charles Winningham, Duane Winningham, Sam Huddleston, Steve Wright and James Wright.
